Career Path of a LATAM Market Analyst at Global Bank

Maria's career path began with an economics degree, followed by two years in venture capital, a field unrelated to their current role as a LATAM Market Analyst at a Global Bank. The rotational program at the bank, focusing on the Peruvian sol/US dollar market and "hedging opportunities," provided the on-the-job training to complement their existing finance knowledge, allowing Maria to learn "from scratch" while applying foundational finance concepts.

Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Please include any internships or jobs you had before your current role.

I'm currently working in the FX market in Peru. I studied economics in college, which has been very helpful in this role. It could also be finance, as this role is actually a finance role, especially regarding my previous experience.

Before this job, I worked for two years in venture capital. That role didn't have anything related to my current position. I think the rotational program I'm in is more about learning day-to-day.

The program emphasizes having a finance background and understanding the concepts. You can learn from scratch, even without direct working experience in that specific job. However, you do need to know the finance concepts to be able to do the job.

It's a rotational program where I rotate every six months in four areas related to the FX market. This involves the Peruvian sol and US dollar. We provide clients with different services, such as hedging opportunities. It's a role where many technical and finance concepts are required.
