What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
My primary responsibility is to serve as a project manager for between five to 10 clients and projects at any given time. I work for Greener U, an engineering and consulting firm. We work within the environmental energy efficiency and sustainability spaces.
The projects I work on span multiple topics and skills. These include baselining, which is assembling an understanding of the current state of an institution or client. This involves data analysis, greenhouse gas emission inventories, and creating reports on all the information we find.
I also do a lot of climate planning. This includes virtual and in-person facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and goal development. Some smaller or less frequent projects I take on include program implementation. This involves coordination of large groups of people and the building of new programs.
Additionally, I handle graphic design and communication. This ranges from building reports and social media content to figuring out how to communicate ideas about sustainability best practices to campuses. I also provide capacity support.
I mainly work with higher education institutions. Often, their sustainability offices and staff offices are underfunded or understaffed. I'm frequently brought on, even for just a couple of hours a week, to provide extra support. This can be if they lose a staff member or are looking to implement a new program that my company has experience with.
