What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

In the nonprofit industry, I really enjoy the chaos and the creativity. There are many ways to solve a problem, unlike perhaps in government where there are stricter rules, policies, and steps. We have those, but we also have fewer.

This means there are many ways to reach your goal. I love that about it because I like to be creative and knock on as many doors as I can. This can lead to a lack of certainty, though.

I've also met amazing people. The people who work for me and I all care about giving back to the community. This has connected me to other organizations and leaders who also care about giving back and strengthening communities. I don't think I would have met these friends and colleagues in any other way.

I really enjoy being in a positive environment. I've had to work in places before where I didn't want to go in and just couldn't wait for the day to end. I get to be in an atmosphere and energy that I actually want to be in; I created it that way.

So I never don't want to go to work, and that's huge because it's where I spend all my time. Sometimes it's hard to turn it off because there are so many things you could do, think of, or events you could try.

The challenge is that there are endless opportunities and ways to achieve your goals, so sometimes it's hard to switch off. But for the most part, it's full of opportunity and really good people. I feel like I'm part of the community and don't feel like I'm doing this alone.
