For entry-level roles in education-related consulting or coaching, Lauren emphasizes that tutoring, volunteering, or even admissions committee involvement can be helpful. However, for consulting or coaching more broadly, Lauren suggests gaining "real life experience" and consulting experience to show credibility and acquire skills like client management, recommending industry experience alongside roles like tutoring, as their own path combined entertainment, consulting, and tutoring experience.

What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergrad or grad student might consider?
So, if you're interested in consulting or coaching for education, or even general consulting and coaching, doing something like tutoring or volunteering can really help. Anything related to education is beneficial.
Being on an admissions committee would also be very helpful. But let's talk more broadly about consulting or coaching in general. Gaining real-life experience is crucial. It's tough to go straight from graduating to admissions consulting, although it's possible.
What truly helps is acquiring practical skills. Having experience with different companies on your resume is important. It shows that you've learned and earned your way. This builds credibility.
For example, my experience at NBC Universal helps when I discuss entertainment and MBAs. This is precisely why I pursued an MBA. So, getting real-life experience and focusing on consulting, if that's your interest, is beneficial for client management.
Again, this depends on the consulting or coaching field you want to enter and your industry focus. I was a tutor for eight years, and that definitely helped. For me, being able to do what I do now comes from combining my experiences.
My background in entertainment, working with diverse people, and my MBA in entertainment, combined with my consulting and tutoring experience, allows me to do what I do.
