Q11: Significant lesson - career

What is one lesson you've learned that has proven significant in your career?

I would say that it takes a lot more time to do things than you think it's going to. When we first started, we thought, "Hey, this is..." We had started, let's see, a couple of years ago.

You see all these companies and you think they're overnight success stories. They're huge, and you think they just started. No, they didn't. You just think they are because now you've heard of them, but you didn't six months ago.

That company has been around for 5, 10, 15, 20, or in Stanley's case, a hundred plus years. Now everyone knows Stanley as the cool water cups, but they've been making water bottles for 150 years. People might say "overnight success story," but that's not really the case.

They've been around forever. That's kind of an odd example, but I think it's important to understand that it takes a lot of time to build something. You have to be patient and just show up every day, work your hardest, and hopefully, you continue to grow. That's what I'm doing here: showing up every day and hoping we continue to grow.
