What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
That's a good question. I'm going to say two things.
First, resilience. You have to be resilient. I got rejected from 14 private equity interviews with 14 different firms. It required a lot of learning and growth.
If I had just given up after interview three, I would not be sitting where I am today. So resilience is extremely important.
More than anything, being nice, a good person, a nice person. You'll be amazed at how many people are willing to help you if they like you. If you're a good, nice person, you'll tend to do a lot better than somebody who is very transactional or not the kindest person in the world. So those are the two key things.
