What a Client Services Director at MarketSharePR Wishes They Had Known Before Entering the Public Relations Industry
Kayla learned that being an extrovert is crucial in the Client Services Director role, as one needs to "be able to talk to anyone about anything" and master small talk even when not feeling at one's best; however, the supportive environment in the industry and community allows for understanding and flexibility on days when one isn't at 100%, and it's "okay" to realize one isn't always as extroverted as one thought.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?
You're going to need to be an extrovert. It's definitely a great thing, and it's also tough because you're not always feeling your 100% self. You really need to be able to get out there and talk to anyone about anything.
Small talk should become a strong skill. It can be a real challenge if you're not feeling your best. But I've found that in this industry and in the community that I live in, everybody is so supportive.
If you're not feeling your best, or they're not feeling their best, people just get it. They'll go with the flow with you, and that's been really enjoyable.
It was also a surprise that not only did I realize I wasn't as extroverted all the time as I thought I was, but I was even more surprised to find out that that's okay.
