What did you do in your undergrad to set you up for success in your career?

I was a very anxious college student. I actually didn't like college because I just wanted to work.

So I took a part-time job while I was in school, making $8 an hour. Granted, times are different now, but $8 an hour was still pretty low and didn't pay for much except my books.

But I really pushed for things that I wanted. When I was in college, radio was my goal. I wanted to be a DJ for our college radio station.

There was this one girl who worked for the station; she was a student and she didn't like me. I don't know why, but she didn't like me and completely dismissed me when I asked to sign up for a time slot.

So, I had a chip on my shoulder. I went around her and found a professor who oversaw the station. I got into one of his classes, filled an overnight time slot, and got the experience.

There was no pressure because nobody listened to my time slot. I think I had two people call into my show ever, but it allowed me to do what I wanted to do. I didn't let another human being dictate my path and dismiss me like she had. It's probably the best decision I ever made, and it taught me a lot.
