What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

I'll start by saying there's a lot I didn't know about this role based on my own preconceived notions of what budgeting was. One of the things that would have been really helpful is how crucial mentorship is.

Sometimes you need to be proactive in seeking out your own mentorship. You can learn a lot from the people who have been in this space before you, but at the same time, you can learn a lot from the other people you're working with alongside.

It's easy to get siloed in your role sometimes, without realizing that if you go talk to your neighbor in the next cubicle, you can learn something about an issue that affects both of you.
