What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career?
I have to say, I think it goes further back than undergrad for me. I came over from England and was recruited for rowing. So, I felt like I was already in survival mode more than anyone else.
I was away from my family. Honestly, rowing was a lot of pressure all the time. I told all my friends I needed something else, because if rowing was all the pressure, it was just going to get into my head.
So, I started doing internships on the side, and it was the best thing I ever did. Having that feeling of doing well in a different field from sports was amazing.
If I had a bad day rowing, it was just a couple of seconds. It seemed make or break at the time. As soon as I started doing internships and finding success, those seconds seemed so small and achievable the next time I went to train.
The biggest thing that set me up for success was honestly the athlete mindset, but also doing internships on the side. I used that athlete mindset to be competitive in whatever internship I was doing.
