What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
Internships are great, and I don't think a lot of college kids will be happy with the answer I provide. But if you really want to get into this industry and you're struggling to get interviews or jobs, weekend or night shift roles are great opportunities for greener writers.
I worked weekends for two years, so I totally understand why it's not the most appealing schedule. However, if I had been closed off to that opportunity, I don't think I would have gotten hired because I had no experience to show for it.
You're competing with so many people who want to be in this industry. Being willing to get your foot in the door that way is an overlooked opportunity. A lot of people don't want to make that sacrifice because it does come with a social cost.
