Favorite Parts Of Being A Research Scientist At New Jersey Environmental Protection
Jen, a Research Scientist, finds the most rewarding aspect of their role is witnessing the direct impact of their work on New Jersey's climate and clean energy goals; the ability to "see where the funds are going" and observe tangible results, such as "planting trees in overburdened communities" and supporting "e-mobility programs," provides a deeply meaningful experience.

What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
Working in government, as a whole, you don't always get to see the direct benefits of a law passed or a program that you're helping to implement or uphold. I love having a front-row seat to all the different projects we're working on in New Jersey to achieve the state's climate and clean energy goals.
Even though some of those projects can take years or even decades, I like knowing where the funds are going and coming from. I can see the projects we're working on and say, "Oh my gosh, I know exactly where we're planting trees right now in these overburdened communities." Or, "This school district just got this many electric buses."
It's really cool to be able to provide grants for schools and municipalities and support e-mobility programs that offer clean and affordable transportation around our capital here in Trenton. I can walk outside and have seen it. Having those benefits readily visible feels good, and it feels meaningful.
