Favorite Parts of Working in the Software Industry as a Software Support Manager

Jarred, a Software Support Manager, finds the most rewarding aspect of his industry to be the development of strong professional relationships: "you just kind of develop a network as you're working," leading to mentorship and valuable industry connections. This networking, born from "getting in front of the customer" and building empathy, is a key benefit of a career in business-to-business software support.

What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

I'll start with what I appreciate most about my job and the industry, and then what I think I like the most.

I think anyone in any company that sells some sort of product, which is most companies, would benefit from being in service for at least a year. This helps develop empathy for the customer's situation, whatever that may be. It might be similar if you're doing internal support, but I truly do think the most valuable thing you do is get in front of the customer.

I really appreciate that, generally speaking, what I enjoy most about this vertical and the business-to-business software space is the ability to develop relationships. These relationships can be utilized later on in your career. As a support person, you develop relationships with people at other companies.

They end up being either mentors or people to bounce ideas off of. So, it's interesting being in the business-to-business software space because you develop a network as you're working.
