What did you do in undergrad that set you up for success in your career?
I tried to explore and experience everything I could. I'm a kid from a pretty normal town in a suburb of Los Angeles, and going to a totally different city where the climate, people, tastes, flavors, smells, and sounds were different was really exciting to me.
Embracing that and seeking out the weird, the abnormal, and things off the beaten path is key. This includes who you spend your time with, where you want to go, and what you want to do.
The more curious you are, both in and out of class, the more you lend yourself to a brand new experience. You'll find yourself ready to take on the curveballs and challenges that come with being a quote-unquote adult after college.
I loved every second of undergrad. I loved every second of being at Michigan in Ann Arbor, and I wouldn't trade it for anything, nor would I trade any of my experiences.
I thought I was supposed to end up at a different local school in Los Angeles. When I didn't get in, I thought it was going to be the end for me. I only knew myself as Jared if I could graduate from that school, from that program. When it didn't happen, it changed my outlook on life and the way I approached my four years.
If you still have time in your undergraduate career and haven't yet stepped outside the box or your comfort zone, do it. Literally drink up as much culture and difference as you can, because it will pay dividends for the rest of your life.
