How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I would say people that typically thrive are those that enjoy working with other people and get energy from being around others. They need to develop relationships pretty consistently.
Generally, what I see is there are quite a few Type A people in consulting. Now, that's not to say that Type B people or those who do not enjoy the people aspect of it can't thrive or find their niche within consulting. I'm definitely speaking broadly here.
But in general, a lot of Type A people are people-oriented and very goal-oriented folks. They are comfortable interacting with and managing different people and personalities.
Most people also have a high degree of flexibility. The other thing is that most of the people I find who thrive, who I've worked with and enjoyed learning from, are those who bring a perspective to the table. They are convicted in their beliefs but are open to debate and to change when needed. I think that's very important when you join a consulting role.
