Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Did you have any internships or jobs before your current role?
Certainly. During my college career, I initially majored in finance and really enjoyed it. However, while on the finance track, I was also taking accounting classes in parallel.
I ended up really enjoying accounting and was good at it. So, I switched my major to pursue a five-year master's program to get my Master's in Accounting. During that time, I interned with a Big Four auditing company called KPMG.
I really enjoyed that work. I audited American Airlines and Sally Beauty. The following summer, I interned with a health and wellness startup in Austin called ClassPass.
That role was more as a staff accountant rather than an auditor. After graduating college, I went full-time back to KPMG and worked in audit for about three and a half years. I focused on consumer and industrial businesses.
I worked with public companies like 7-Eleven and Brinker, which operates Chili's and Maggiano's. My last client was Six Flags. After that, I transitioned to consulting work in accounting.
This gave me a good understanding of how to analyze companies and see what they were doing behind the scenes. In my second consulting role, I acted as an advisor, helping companies correct issues in their financial reporting or accounting processes.
