What is your biggest challenge in your role?

The biggest challenge was likely when getting staff ready for Day Zero, or even the week before your project kicks off. It involved learning about the client and the industry they operate in.

For example, on my first project, it was with a manufacturing client in the electrical industry. My prior experience offered essentially zero carryover from my previous job.

I found myself asking a ton of questions, asking my manager for resources. I asked, "What can I read? What do we already have that I can read?"

That would be the biggest challenge: just getting a grasp of things. It felt like trying to grasp air. I didn't know what I needed to know.

So, raising your hand to your teammates and asking, "What can you provide me with so that I at least have a solid foundation when we actually ramp up and start?" was crucial.

The other challenge is humility. No problem is too small or too big for you. It's about having the energy and eagerness to say, "That's a new problem. I want to go and tackle that." Those are probably the two biggest challenges.
