As a student athlete, how has that impacted how you've navigated your career?

That's a great question. I was a member of the men's Cal Poly tennis team. The skillset you learn—the hard work, the mental toughness, the ability to overcome challenges, to overcome a bad day, a bad match, a bad shot—really set me forward to career success.

There are tough days in the office. There are times you have to work harder than others, and times when people tell you no, even if you think that's the wrong answer. You really have to overcome that.

That ability, learned through hard work in college and being on a sports team, really helps you find a way to break through and persevere. One of my nicknames at work is "pleasantly persistent."

So, I smile, get up, and call again, talk again, ask again. When I get knocked down, I get up, smile, and just keep being pleasantly persistent. I think that goes back to my roots of playing sports, and it's been a really good foundation for my success.
