What a Product Manager and Engineer at a Fintech Company wishes they had known before entering the Fintech industry

Honorebel wishes there was a recommended book to better prepare individuals for the fintech industry, specifically focusing on payments, because Visa's goal is "to make it easier for people to be paid and get paid"; and this type of book would allow a very deep dive, vertically and horizontally, into the industry. Honorebel references the book "Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time" as a generally applicable book, explaining it is something that helps to learn as fast as possible, but that it's not tailored enough to the nuances of the fintech industry.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

I honestly wish there was a recommended book I could have read that would have better prepared me, not for the role, but for the industry. I'm a big reader.

You can see I have a bunch of books right there. For example, in the manufacturing space when I was working at an aerospace company, or even the hardware space, there's a book called, and I have it right here.

It's called "Do Twice the Work in Half the Time." I've read that book multiple times and am actually reading it again now. I think that kind of allows me to be a better product manager.

More particularly for the industry, it helps you learn a lot quicker. When you think about doing twice the work in half the time, that also applies to learning. This means you want to learn as fast as you can and retain a lot of information.

But I think if there was a book about payments, a book about how people get paid, that would be great. Visa's whole entire goal is to make it easier for people to be paid and get paid.

We are a digital payments company. Every single time someone is paid, it gets transacted over our network. That's what we take care of.

So, I wish there was some kind of book that allowed a very deep dive into that vertical and horizontally into the industry.
