What an Activities Director at Andrew Hill High School wishes they had known before entering the education industry

Hong, an Activities Director, reflects that a crucial, yet often overlooked, aspect of the education field is the understanding that "as much as [one] has an impact on students, it's not just [one]." The multitude of influences on students means that individual educators should not bear the weight of every outcome, but rather strive to be "one part of the puzzle."

Transcript

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

Here's the cleaned transcript:

"Some of the hard ones. I've been asked this question before, but I think the number one thing that I wish I knew before stepping into the care of education is that, as much as I do have an impact on students, it's not just me.

I only see students for a finite amount of time, and they have so many other impacts outside the classroom and outside of school. So if something happens, it's not... it shouldn't weigh on your shoulders.

I mean, try your best, and you're only one part of the puzzle."
