What skills are most important for a job like yours?
I would say people skills are the most important. Being able to communicate effectively and work with difficult personalities, especially those resistant to change, is crucial.
That's honestly one of the questions I was asked in my interview for this position: "How do you deal with difficult personalities?" So I'd say that's probably top-tier in terms of importance.
Then, being very detail-oriented and forward-thinking. You can't always just think about the present and getting things done now. You have to think about how this will affect things one year, two years, or ten years down the line.
Time management skills are especially important when working from home. My boss is located in New York, and I'm in Dallas. Being able to work around his schedule and my own, ensuring we're getting things done accordingly, is very important.
Finally, the ability to listen to people's problems or complaints and identify solvable issues. You need to be able to discern what's a complaint and what's an actual issue, and then develop a plan to solve it.
