What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

My biggest challenge in my current role revolves around navigating the dynamic changes in the state and county budget. There's a budget shortfall in the state budget, so we have to deal with how that will affect our spending, our one-time spending, and our ongoing expenses. Shortfalls and spending limits that emerge present ongoing challenges and require constant adaptation to ensure effective budget management.

Addressing these budgetary fluctuations demands a strategic approach to reconcile financial plans with the evolving fiscal landscape, all while maintaining the integrity of our financial responsibilities and obligations. Another big challenge is getting buy-in within the department to be more innovative and efficient in following our new core values.

One silver lining of the pandemic was the ability to work from home and digitally produce our work without having to print things. However, more seasoned employees are not always open to change and learning. It's about working with them so they understand this is the new world and that we still have to be efficient and effective even when working from home.

This involves finding the balance and trying to get them to figure everything out while meeting deadlines. Those are a couple of the biggest challenges.
