What a Senior Sourcing Analyst at NASCAR Wishes They Had Known Before Entering the Sports Industry

Giovanni wishes someone had fully prepared them for "the speed at which the industry moves," noting that while they knew it conceptually from an internship, the reality of a full season was much faster-paced, not just on race days but throughout the entire year. Experiencing a full season versus the internship period revealed a stark contrast in the tempo of the sport as a whole.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

I probably wish somebody would have told me there's a lot more Excel work than I had expected. I think it's tough.

I kind of had a good expectation of what I was getting into because I interned with the company. So, I kind of knew going into the role full-time what I was going to be doing.

It was, to some extent, an extension of my internship. But, I think I wish somebody would have really explained to me the speed at which the industry moves.

I think I knew it, but I didn't really feel it. Because when you're an intern, you're there for—I was there for 10 weeks over the summer. It's not the same as being there for a full season of the sport.

So, it probably would have been good to have a better feel for how fast we move. And I'm not just talking about race day. I'm talking about as an industry, as a sport, as a season, how fast we move throughout the year.
