What do you enjoy most about being in your role?
I would say I enjoyed the project part, the systems improvement part, because we were making a difference in making the system better. NASCAR has since had to restructure, and so things have changed.
However, our improvements really helped the end users, and I thought that was really fun. Working with people at NASCAR in a cross-functional manner was also a lot of fun.
Even though I was in procurement, what I did touched all areas of finance, and even broader parts of the company like marketing. Being so central to NASCAR's spending gave me visibility to every part of the company, which made it enjoyable.
Plus, you are working for NASCAR, which means there's a racetrack across the street. It was a lot of fun to attend the races when we had them. I can't say I was a big fan before I got into it, but I am a diehard fan of NASCAR now. Once you experience it, it's an amazing sport.
