What is one lesson you've learned that's proven significant in your career?

The biggest lesson I've learned is that making mistakes is completely normal. Everyone makes mistakes, no matter their level or age.

So, if you make a mistake, admit it and let people know. Get it out in the open. For instance, last week I made a really big mistake on an order. The first thing I did, without even skipping a beat, was call my boss.

I told her, "Hey, I did this wrong." Mistakes happen, and we fixed it. It's one thing to make a mistake; it's another to not tell anyone.

If you ignore it and let it fester, it will probably get worse and worse. People will get frustrated. For me, I told my boss about the mistake and how I was going to solve it.

Because it did affect my vice president a little, during our weekly review, I told her, "Hey, this happened, and we fixed it. All is good."

That's why it's absolutely really important to be upfront about mistakes.
