What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
An entry-level position an undergraduate student may consider is called a student worker or a student professional worker. There are two types.
A student worker is for a high school student interested in getting into the health department at an early age. A student professional worker is for an undergraduate student who is attending school and wants to work within the department.
With a student professional worker role, you can work in any department within public health. I did that, and that's where I learned about the different departments. For example, I worked in the injury and violence prevention department for public health, where we focused on issues regarding violence and gun violence.
That was a very good eye-opener for me because I learned about all the departments within public health. That's also where I learned about the department I worked for and met two individuals employed there. That's how I was exposed to this department and learned about it.
And that's how I got into this field. So, I would say that's how I got exposed to it, pretty much.
