What skills are most important for a job like yours?
A job in sales, especially sales leadership, requires you to hone your skills in listening and empathy. Your job is to manage others who bring in millions of dollars in revenue, so there's a sensitivity and an ego to consider.
One of the most important things I do is coach and listen to my clients. I listen to the hotel operations and the managers who directly report to me. Listening is a hard skill to master, but over the years, it has provided me with great benefit and made me successful.
Another thing that really helps is the ability to synthesize data and develop it into a strategy. Finally, I think one of the most important things in sales is understanding consumer behavior. It's crucial to know who you're going after, what motivates them, and how to position yourself in front of them organically. This requires understanding what's important to them and how they behave.
