Eric, a Managing Director at Wells Fargo, advises social science students lacking detail-orientation to begin with "self-awareness," suggesting that treating detail-orientation as a "show of respect" can make it more manageable. What advice would you give students with a major in the social sciences who are not detail-oriented about finding their first job?

I think it starts with self-awareness. If you know something is a weakness, do what you can to get it on par. It doesn't have to become a strength or a superpower, but knowing that something is a challenge for you is the most important thing.

It's like self-awareness. There's a baseline in any endeavor to be detail-oriented. One way to think about it is through respect. Do you want to show respect to someone else?

Being detail-oriented with them is a show of respect. It means you care. This might make it more interesting and easier to grasp.

Often, a lack of detail conveys a lack of respect, which is probably not what you intend. But if you're self-aware, you can manage it. Who knows, it might ultimately become a superpower.
