Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Please include any internships or jobs you had before your current role.
I started by applying to be a biomedical engineering undergraduate at Cal Poly SLO, in San Luis Obispo. I'm originally from Kansas and moved out there to experience the California life.
I chose a general concentration major, which allowed me to select electives based on my interests rather than following a strictly defined schedule. I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue the mechanical or electrical route, so this major let me pick and choose subjects I was interested in.
I took many human anatomy classes, as well as statistics and biomedical ethics. This sparked my interest in the broader field of biomedical engineering and its various components.
During college, I completed an internship at Decipher Pharmaceuticals as a laboratory technician intern. My work involved growing cells and running experiments to detect specific protein and enzyme levels.
This internship was my first experience in a professional setting. I learned how a workplace operates and who to approach for questions.
Right after college, I began my current role as a manufacturing engineer. I graduated in 2022 and have been in this position since. I'm actually starting a new role in two weeks.
