Entry-Level Positions For Aspiring BDRs And SDRs
Entry-level positions in tech sales, such as "business development representative" or "sales development representative (SDR/BDR)," are common routes into the field, with many companies now offering internships, as noted by Dylan, a Provider Growth Associate at Headway; these internships, like the one Dylan's friend completed at Okta, can significantly aid in securing full-time employment after graduation.

What entry-level positions in this field might an undergraduate college student consider?
For tech sales, I would say the common entry-level roles are business development representative (BDR) or sales development representative (SDR). These acronyms are frequently used.
Most large technology and software companies offer these positions. Many companies are also rolling out more internship programs now. When I was in school, there were fewer SDR or BDR internships available.
Currently, there are more programs that bring in cohorts of about 20 to 25 students for the summer. This offers a great opportunity to gain valuable experience. For example, a friend of mine interned at Okta in San Francisco the summer before his senior year, which helped him secure a full-time position after graduation.
I also worked in a similar role for about five months after I graduated and had the option to stay on full-time. Internships during school were definitely helpful, particularly during the summer. After graduation, securing an SDR or BDR role is a strong path forward.
