Dennis, taking you back to your time at San Diego State University. What did you do in undergrad that set you up for success in your career?

The most pivotal thing I did in my undergrad was join a student organization. At the time, it was called the CSU Ambassadors.

This organization had a domino effect for me. One of my friends there, who I worked with, was a recruiter for Teach for America. That connection really set me up on my career path.

I feel like that student organization was really important for me. It helped me build good relationships with everyone. It made me understand the value of keeping in touch with people and helping others.

It also helped me think about my career in terms of who could help me, and who I could help. I think you hear often that it's all about networking. While I don't love that framing, it's true that people are often willing to help each other.

Building your own network is important. In undergrad, I unknowingly built my network through that organization, and it just kept growing from there.
