What type of person thrives in the Executive Search industry, according to an Executive Recruiter at Spencer Stuart
Executive recruiters thrive when possessing "that self-drive, that self-motor," because the industry demands self-motivation and a strong work ethic, as "things don't come easy." A genuine appreciation for building relationships and connecting with people is also key to success in this field.

How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I would say two things. For the most part, you've got to have that self-drive, that self-motivation.
No one is going to be pushing you or micromanaging you, at least not at my firm. I really appreciate that about Spencer Stuart. If no one is behind your back or watching you, it's all up to you.
This can be scary for some people who always had someone pushing them. You really need that self-motivation to keep working hard and driving forward.
I think you also have to have a certain appreciation for hard work. Things don't come easy, and anything rewarding usually comes at a price; you have to work hard for it. That really rings true here.
Lastly, I would say people who thrive here are those who enjoy people. They enjoy building relationships, getting to know people, and helping people. If you have an appreciation for building relationships and humans in general, you may find executive search to be a good place for you.
