What a Marketing and Business Development Director at Mintz wishes they had known before entering the Legal industry

After 20 years in legal marketing, David wishes someone had emphasized the importance of understanding the nuances of the legal field early on, as "how much [he] didn't know about the law" or the business of law initially hindered professional growth. Gaining that knowledge sooner would have made one "even better suited" to the role.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

It's funny to answer that question after having been in the industry for 20 years. When I first joined Fisher, Michigan 22 years ago, in my first legal marketing professional role, I was amazed at how much I didn't know.

I didn't know about the law, the practice of law, or the business of law. I didn't understand how law firms work, how money is made, or how clients are interacted with.

I learned a lot in the last over 20 years. I would have been even better suited to do my job if I had known more of that earlier on in my career.
