Transcript

Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Did you have any internships or jobs before your current role?

I got my bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona. During my last year or two, I interned at a lab, which was required for credit to get the degree. So I did a year of lab work.

I gained experience working in a pharmaceutical lab. I performed wet lab work, which involved working with reagents, mixing things, and trying different experiments.

After that, I worked for two years at Massachusetts General Hospital. I did similar work there, but to expand my skills. I performed different types of experiments and also worked with mice, learning how to conduct mouse experiments.

During the first year of that job, I realized I wanted to pursue higher education. After gaining a year of experience, I began preparing my application for graduate school. This process requires taking a standardized test.

Applying and getting accepted typically takes about a year. I was accepted into the PhD program I wanted, which focuses on the biology of aging. I am currently in my fifth year and finishing up.
