Q7: Favorite parts - industry
What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
Sports as a whole, it's a really close community, which is really cool. It opens up doors to meet some really interesting people and go see some great events.
What's always exciting about it is, because the community is so small, you're always talking to other teams in leagues and learning best practices. What works for some may not work for you, or maybe you want to tweak it. They might even ask you for advice about what you're doing. This has started to happen quite a bit more, which is always exciting and validation of what we're doing.
It actually happens quite a bit now because of our unique format. We kind of get to do things a little differently. We've had people reach out to us. So, I love being part of the sports community and the relationships I've been able to build through it.
Ultimately, I've always been a sports fan. I grew up a huge baseball fan but have really come to love the sport of lacrosse. With the Diamondbacks, your office is Chase Field and the stadium; you're there every single day. Here, we travel every single week, and it's a different stadium. You get to know those teams and their staff, and you're around sports 24/7.
It's just a different type of job. It's definitely a grind, but that's one of the coolest aspects of it. People kind of get lost in that a little bit, thinking working in sports is just attending games, cool parties, and enjoying it. You only get to do that if you grind. It's really hard.
You have to have that work ethic; people get weeded out pretty early if they don't. It's easy to see. So, one has to come with the other. But being part of the community and building relationships has been really, really cool.
