Transcript
As someone who identifies as a DACA recipient, how has that impacted how you've navigated your career?
Being a DACA recipient has shown me that I should focus on what I can control, rather than what I can't. For instance, I couldn't control my legal status.
However, I could control the effort I put into my work. This has really helped me focus on actionable things, instead of dwelling on what's beyond my control.
Additionally, as a DACA recipient, I knew I might have had a smaller network and fewer opportunities than others. To supplement this, I actively sought out mentorships.
I looked for people doing what I aspired to do and asked them how I could get there. Even without immediate expertise or a surrounding knowledge base, I reached out to people on LinkedIn and other platforms.
I'd ask them, "How do I get to your position?" This helped me bridge the gap of what I didn't know and gain expert guidance to achieve my goals.
