What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

I like government because it's how we solve things as a society. We've determined that certain rules make everyone's lives better. These rules ensure we protect each other, take care of our natural resources, and address issues like natural monopolies, externalities, or market failures.

So, how do we allocate and divide power? How do we create a safe business environment and fair legislation that allows for success? How do we ensure institutions function properly? Living in a society means having a form of government that is sufficient and serves its population.

What I enjoy about this process is its relevance. We can ignite change in society one policy, one company, and one action at a time. The actions we take are powerful, and the ripple effect we create is significant. I most enjoy seeing the transformational power of our work.

On a personal and intellectual level, it's great to blend my public policy background with my business background. As an MBA, I understand the business side of companies, their financial aspects, marketing, hiring, operations, and logistics. From a public policy standpoint, I consider how these elements benefit society at large and the status quo.

Intellectually, it's a good challenge to merge these two passions and directions: government and academia. I like government because we need good people involved. I'm not saying I'm great, but I am committed to making society better, with all my flaws and areas for improvement.

Government is valuable because you can see the real-time impact we make. Good government improves things, while bad government gets in the way. We need to ask ourselves if we're trying to hinder progress or genuinely improve things, especially now as we redefine our country, state, and community.

We need committed individuals dedicated to service in government to ignite change. If government is left to less capable, less honest, or less interested people, what kind of government do we have? The government we have is a reflection of who we are and, sadly, the times we're living in.

So, how do we change that? We need younger generations to get involved and effect change from within. The way to win is by bringing more good people into government. If you're interested in serving your community, understand that this is a great career path.

You can adjust your income expectations or supplement with other activities like teaching. It's a stable job offering a strong sense of purpose, steady income, good retirement benefits, and is a very rewarding career if you're committed to service. If you're just looking for a paycheck, perhaps consider something else. We need passionate people dedicated to community service in various agencies and groups.

Make up your mind and understand your goals. Government provides a platform to help others. I know this was a long answer, but it's something I'm very passionate about. Many influential figures, from Aristotle to Locke, have emphasized government's importance.

It's crucial to understand that we need good people in government and must ignite this change generation after generation. That's my two cents on the question.
