Biggest Challenges Faced by a Research Scientist at a Government Agency

Dan's biggest challenge as a Research Scientist at a Government Agency is the common issue of limited resources: "never enough funding or time in the day to do everything you wanna do." The work can be exciting, and there is a desire to "really dig into it" but often must move on to the next thing.

What is your biggest challenge in your role?

Almost any job in government, there's never enough funding or time in the day to do everything you want to do. There's a lot going on and a lot to do, and never quite the amount of time or resources necessary to do everything to the extent you'd want.

Having a background in academia, some of these questions are really exciting. You get to the point you need to for work, and you think, "Man, I could spend another two months on this and really dig into it, and that would be cool." But you really have to move on to the next thing. We constantly have a lot to be on top of.
