What do you enjoy most about being in this industry?
I like that the optics and photonics industry is kind of small. This means that when I go to events, I recognize people and build relationships across the industry.
Being active on platforms like LinkedIn has helped me stay connected as I've grown in this field. I also find the applications of this technology incredibly cool.
For example, medical applications allow us to image inside the body without surgery. A lot of optics and technology are also involved in making the screens and semiconductor chips that make our phones and TVs smart.
I've always loved robots, so helping them see and understand their surroundings is also very appealing. I genuinely love the applications of optics and that side of the industry.
I also appreciate the culture here. If I were in a larger field, like medicine, with so many professionals, it might be harder to feel a strong sense of belonging. The photonics industry, being smaller, fosters a more tight-knit community.
