How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

I think, generally, people who will do really well are those who are really motivated to get work done, be productive, and continuously pursue new project ideas. They should be eager to expand what we're doing and grow as a team.

We work with a lot of public and government agencies, and they play an important role in this work. However, you can definitely see the challenges in how long it sometimes takes for the government to work on things and get certain projects to move forward. It doesn't always feel like there's a lot of motivation to get things done quickly.

On our private consulting side, we obviously want to succeed and do well as a company. Everyone is very motivated. If you're ambitious and at Helix, there's a lot of motivation and encouragement to pursue something you're passionate about.

As a project manager, I can look at projects and say, "I really think we should pursue this," or, "I want to focus time and effort into this industry." If you're interested in learning, growing, and building skill sets, this is a good place for you because there are so many opportunities.

You don't have to be funneled into one career category. You can be a project manager but also want to be an arborist, so you go get your arborist license. Or you can be a botanist, or a biology project manager, or a restoration project manager. If you're interested in growing and building your career in that area, this is definitely a good place for you.
