What A Category Business Manager At Google Wishes They Had Known Before Entering The Technology Industry

Christopher, a Category Business Manager at Google, wishes someone had advised them to "take it slow" when entering the industry because while the fast-paced environment aligns with their natural inclination to "move really quick," slowing down and being thorough is crucial to avoid burnout and ultimately be more successful. In other words, thoughtfulness is more advantageous than speed.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

Take it slow. We just talked about how fast technology moves.

And about me, living in the future, you run a hundred miles an hour. When you run a hundred miles an hour, you start working on way too much stuff.

So, take a step back, move slowly, be thorough. I wish someone would have told me that. This industry really hits on things that are a part of my personality, like moving fast.

I don't want to say "break things" because that's an old thing to say, but the ability to move really quick and make fast decisions, that's all well and good. But you really do need to slow down, because you'll burn out 100%. Then you'll just bumble all over the place.

So, the more you slow down, the more thoughtful you are, the more successful you'll be.
