Who Thrives In The Law Industry According To An Associate Attorney At King And Spalding

To thrive in the legal industry, a successful attorney must possess a blend of "harder scale aspects," such as analytical skills and academic rigor, and "people-centered, client-focused" abilities, because "law is not just a profession, it's also a business," requiring strong client relationships and collaboration. How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

I think people who typically thrive as attorneys are interested in both the work aspects of it, the harder-scale aspects in terms of the analytical pieces and academic challenges. They also enjoy and appreciate the more people-centered, client-focused aspects of it.

Because law is not just a profession, it's also a business. To practice law and thrive in it over a long period of time requires working with clients and growing relationships with clients and partners. Therefore, I think you have to have both of those skill sets to ultimately thrive in the industry long-term.
