Biggest Challenges Faced by a Broadcast Engineer at NPR

Christian, a Broadcast Engineer at NPR, finds the biggest challenge is balancing individual needs with the needs of the many, stating that "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few." This often requires making decisions that might seem inefficient in the short-term to ultimately benefit the largest audience, forcing a compromise between instinct and the greater good.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

I think the biggest challenge is figuring out ways that you can satisfy the largest amount of people. Always remembering that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few, you might have to make inefficient or seemingly incorrect decisions.

These decisions might benefit the most people down the line. It's a challenge to go against a lot of your training or instincts in order to provide those solutions.
