What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
I've worked college job fairs, including at CU Boulder last year and this spring. I'd say Pepsi does a really good job of recruiting out of college into what's called the Campus Hire Program.
It's not the same structure as when I started; it's actually a thousand times better now. You do a rotating schedule where you learn all aspects of the business. Instead of starting as a pre-sale rep and then having to become a delivery supervisor or ops manager to reach territory sales manager, you do this rotational program.
You learn all the different aspects of the business for about two weeks, and then in nine months, you take over your own sales team. The best opportunity is PepsiCo's campus hire program if you want to be fast-tracked into a territory sales manager role.
Even some of the folks I manage, food service reps, it's a little tougher to get in because it's pretty sought after. People want to be on the food service side of the business. The people I manage are entry-level roles. They definitely need some sales experience, ideally two to three years. Based on that, I'd probably hire you for my team.
