What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
There's really a wide variety. It really depends on what you want to do. There are entry-level positions within each department of production.
You could start as a production assistant if you're interested in the production office or the art department. There are also different coordinators for other departments like set dressing, production design, and props. Every shooting department has an entry-level position.
A lot of these people are willing to give their time and be mentors. It really depends on the position you eventually want to end up in.
On the finance and accounting side, I've seen people start as an accounting clerk, move up to second assistant, then first assistant accountant, and perhaps do some production accounting. From there, you could go into the studio side.
However, I didn't take that route. I came from public accounting and got into this job that way. There are definitely a lot of entry-level positions within the production accounting staff on the ground within the studio.
The same applies there. They may have entry-level roles like internships. You could also do a financial analyst role or participate in junior accounting programs that some studios offer.
There's just a wide variety. If you do the research and talk to the right people, depending on where you want to end up, there are a lot of these opportunities available.
