Favorite Parts of Being a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Software Company

Channing enjoys the tangible, creative aspect of software engineering, particularly front-end development, because of the ability to build something from scratch and see the immediate, visible results of the work: "I made this." The role also offers a degree of independent work, which is appealing because while collaboration is necessary, it's not the sole focus of the day-to-day.

What do you enjoy most about being in your role?

For me, I enjoy the coding aspect of it, just in general. I enjoy being able to start with nothing and have something finished that I can look at at the end and say, "Yeah, this is cool. I made this."

Especially as a front-end developer, because what we deal with, we actually see what we're working on. And at the end, the users are going to see everything we're working on too. So it's a little more impressive for me for that part of it.

At the end, you can say, "Oh yeah, it looks really, really good." And that's the part that you get compliments on.

The other part is, for the most part, it's independent work. So if you don't really like dealing with a whole bunch of people, you generally can get by with it. You do have to deal with people quite frequently, but at least it's not all day, every day.
