How would you describe people who typically thrive in your industry?

Nursing can be mentally and emotionally draining. It can also be physically draining, where people are physically heavy, so it can really tax your mind, body, and soul.

I think that the people who really thrive in nursing are those who have their work-life balance down. They practice self-care, whether that's therapy, massages, meditation, family time, or vacation. Whatever someone does to pour back into themselves, it's really important to maintain that when you become a nurse.

In my opinion, some nurses tend to get wrapped up in being a nurse because it's such a big part of their personality. Usually, the people in nursing really care and want to help people; they truly have a heart for it. When that happens, it can be a little consuming.

It's important to separate your work and home life. Make sure you come home, turn work off, and have trusted friends, a good support system, and your hobbies. I love my dog, the books I read, and my family and friends. I think that's super important.

People who really set boundaries can pick up overtime every now and then when they know their body and mind allow for it. But they also know when to turn things off and when not to.

A work-life balance is super important in an industry like nursing because there is life and death, and it's a rollercoaster of disease processes. That can be very draining. Learning how to live your life outside of work and really leave work at work is really important.
