What are your main responsibilities within this job role?

In my current job as a senior sustainability manager, the work can vary a lot. It really depends on what you're working with and who you're collaborating with.

I've had the chance to work both in-house and now at a consulting firm. In-house, the work can range from greenhouse gas accounting to developing sustainability strategies or decarbonization roadmaps for a facility or a product.

As a consultant, a lot of my current work leans heavily on regulation. I assess if there's impending regulation in a city, state, or country that a client needs to comply with, and how they must disclose that information as it relates to corporate sustainability.

This often involves climate-related risks, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, and emissions disclosure. So, it covers a wide spectrum from that perspective.

On the voluntary side, which is non-regulatory, it could involve opportunities to reduce energy or water consumption. It also includes ways to operate in a more environmentally friendly or climate-conscious manner.

This could also mean building a sustainability strategy roadmap. In my day-to-day, there aren't many tasks that are exactly the same; it's dependent on what's in the timeframe. But overall, it covers a pretty wide range of what's available in the role.
