What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
What I enjoy most about my industry is being surrounded by people who are passionate about this work. You can enter the world of corporate sustainability in a few different ways, but the people in it are incredibly passionate and driven by fighting the climate crisis.
There's a definite sense of community and urgency to do as much as you can for your clients, customers, and peers. The goal is to build upon the existing knowledge that's out there.
For example, I used to work at a tech company. When you're looking at competitors or trying to identify opportunities within your own company, it can be hard to look across the board and bridge gaps with people at other companies. In corporate sustainability, however, there's generally a supporting hand.
Everyone is ultimately working towards the same goal. It doesn't really matter what company you work for; the allegiance is more to fighting the crisis we're all dealing with, rather than maintaining company secrets.
I really enjoy that camaraderie, the network, and the personhood of the industry. It makes for a passion-driven working style.
