What are your main responsibilities within your current role as an engineer and paramedic?

As an engineer and paramedic, my current roles include driving the apparatus. I'm currently at Station 31 in downtown Danville.

I switch between an engine company and a truck company. When I arrive in the morning, I perform a full rig checkout. This includes ensuring my ladder, air brake, and pump all work.

I verify that all intricate parts of the fire engine are safe to drive and that I have all necessary equipment. On a fire call, now that I'm in the driving role, I either go all in with my crew or stay outside.

If I'm on scene, I'll operate the pump panel, supplying water to firefighters inside the building. If I'm on the truck company, we sometimes split up. Another firefighter and I may go to the roof to cut a hole while our captain and a fourth firefighter search for victims inside.
